The game starts with a tower of 54 rectangular wooden blocks arranged in layers of three, with each layer perpendicular to the previous one. Players take turns removing one block at a time from the tower and placing it on top. The game ends when the tower falls or when a player causes the tower to fall while removing or placing a block. The winner is the last player to successfully remove and place a block without causing the tower to fall.
